What To Wear To Your Rehearsal Dinner

While you may not be as involved in all of the planning, your rehearsal dinner is another opportunity for you to show off a bit of you and your groom’s personality. From the venue to the food, you’re given a bit more freedom to get creative. This even extends to the clothing. Typically informal and a bit more laid back, your rehearsal dinner will usually only have your close family and friends. Because of the smaller guest list, you’re allotted even more flexibility in the planning.

One of the big questions facing you (and your guests) will be what to wear. On the invitations that you, or the groom’s parents send out, should include a dress code. Give your guests an idea of what to expect from you and your groom, so that no one feels embarrassed for being over or under dressed.

At Savvi, we want to talk to you about  a few different dress styles and when they’re appropriate for you rehearsal dinner:

Black Tie

This is usually more appropriate for the actual wedding day, but if you want your rehearsal dinner to be a fancy affair then black tie is the way to go. Your venue should be at a more upscale banquet hall and you should anticipate wearing a cocktail dress or long evening gown. Your groom will be expected to wear a tuxedo

Formal

Formal events are typically a little less formal than the aforementioned black tie affairs. Your groom could wear a tuxedo but a dark suit would also be appropriate.

Semi-Formal

A very common choice, this selection will let your guest to know that men should wear a suit and tie and women should wear a cocktail dress or a dress skirt and top to dinner.

Casual

Casual can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. If you leave the dress code at “casual” expect to see a variety of interpretations. If you want to avoid guests wearing all sorts of different outfits, it’s okay to be a bit more explicit in your invitation.

At the end of the day, you rehearsal dinner is an extension of your wedding day. At the end of the day, you should make sure that you stay true to yourself and have an event that you and your groom will both enjoy!
