2014 Formalwear Trends

Currently there are two prominent trends in men’s formalwear fashion, first is the color of tux itself, and second is the fit that flatters you.

Make sure the tuxedo you pick says “ this is me looking my best”   As we have watched 2013’s trend of weddings become a little less formal, this year, we have seen many brides and grooms embrace the formal look for 2014 and accent it with their own special touch.  In many instances the brides dress is the ultimate formal dream gown or a stunning elegant formal that would never be worn for any other occasion.   Brides want their fiancé matching that look on the most important day of their life, captured in pictures and video to last a lifetime.   When a groom puts on his tuxedo he wants to share that feeling of importance and confidence, a special look for a special day!

Men’s formalwear has changed dramatically over the years, today’s modern fit and slim fit tuxedos will keep you right on the cutting edge of fashion, but also maintain a look of tradition.  Pick what flatters the groom first, order a try-on; and in some instances a groom may prefer a slim fit for himself while selecting that same style and color of tuxedo but in a modern or classic fit for the rest of the party.   A true formalwear specialist will work with you to develop the look that is special and unique for your wedding.

While the most traditional color of formalwear is still black, the many shades of grey continue to makes a bold statement this year. Grey is the new black in 2014, and looks to be strong for 2015 as well.  As we track future trends, today’s specialist is also seeing a rise in the amount of Navy tuxedos as well for the weddings of 2015.

As for the accent trends for 2014 and beyond, multiple pocket squares with additional colors both matching and complimenting the bridesmaids dress with a coordinating bow or Windsor tie seem to be how a great number of wedding parties are choosing to accent their men’s formalwear.  This is done with a vest that matches the color and material of the tuxedo itself.

Other creative additions include implementing additional color splashes with formal suspenders, fun socks, sunglasses or other fun compliments for all the guys to help express personality when the highlight the point of festivity that kicks in when your event turns into the party stage.  Remember, your special day is really broken into two parts, the solemn and special part of the ceremony and the vows, and the fun and celebration of the reception.  So what’s next on the horizon for wedding in 2015, I think a modern cutaway, cummerbunds and maybe even an updated ascot tie look may be in the near future, remember, you read it here first!
