Renting Suits for Groomsmen Made Easy
For many brides-to-be, their worries about wedding day apparel do not end once they’ve finally found the perfect, gleaming white dress to walk down the aisle in. Instead, there is often just as much concern with ensuring that the groom and groomsmen look just as polished. So, when it comes time for the groomsmen to rent their suits, how can you make sure they come back looking so sharp that even James Bond would be proud? The following guide will help keep the boys on the right track as they search for the right suit.
Size Matters
One of the biggest mistakes made when it comes to renting suits for groomsmen is selecting one that does not fit properly. Keep in mind that just because you’re renting doesn’t mean you’re doomed to wear an oversized jacket or baggy pants. Instead, in today’s world of slimmer fits and more customized approach, it is easier than one might think to find a flattering rental.
In order to find the right look, remind your groomsmen that the shoulders of their suit jacket should be close to the body, but not in a way that constricts movement. Further, their sleeves should reveal between a quarter to a half of an inch of shirt when arms are at the side. Pant legs should be close to the body as well, with about one inch of break. Encourage particularly clueless mates to meet with a fit consultant instead of blindly picking off the rack- they’ll be sure to leave with a stellar suit that looks custom fit.
Make Plans in Advance
In the wedding world, last minute changes and additions make for unwanted added stress. Don’t let the groomsmen attire join the list of things being scrambled together days before the nuptials. While it is well known that brides will purchase their wedding dress months and months in advance, it is equally as important that the groomsmen have their wedding suits selected and reserved well in advance too. Once the groom shares the look and style for the group, get fitted and place your order. Many parties will even plan a group outing to get fitted together, allowing for the task to be over and done with in one fell swoop. Do this and you’ll be worry free leading up to the wedding, allowing you to focus on more exciting activities (bachelor party anyone?)
Stick to the Classics
For the groom mulling over groomsmen suit ideas, don’t overlook the classic styles that have stood the test of time. While you may be tempted to go for a current trend or bright and crazy color, give your guys the chance to shine in a put-together, stylish suit. Consider a suit that is navy, black, or a nice charcoal or light grey. Not only will everyone look sophisticated and tasteful, but they’ll also feel comfortable and confident standing by your side. Not to mention, they’ll have a much easier time finding a flattering rental suited to their shape.
Return Intact and On Time
Weddings can get crazy. Don’t let your rental fall victim to your late-night shenanigans. Many stores will require that groomsmen suit rentals are returned within the next day or two after the wedding, so it is important to plan accordingly. As a groomsman it’s likely that you’ve already spent a significant amount of money on travel, hotel, gifts, etc. The last thing you need is a late return fee. Also, it goes without saying that damage will result in additional fees, so be careful!
